Summer 2025 service trip:

community construction in cusco

This year, we will be taking ten Nordhoff students to Peru , where we will take part in ongoing community construction and renovation projects in Cusco or the surrounding Sacred Valley.

In Cusco, we will be working with a local nonprofit on their ongoing community renovation projects. Although we will not know exactly what our project will be until later this spring, as projects are determined by the community’s needs and priorities, we do know that the types of projects this nonprofit is involved in are community identified and driven. Our project will likely take place at a school, clinic, or community center and may involve building, renovating, painting, or gardening. We will be working under the direction of the local team who is overseeing the project, and some of our trip cost goes directly to pay for the materials for the project we will be assisting on.

In Cusco, we will be staying in a local homestay and along with our volunteering, we will be learning about the history of Peru, the history and culture of the Quecha people, and what this culture looks like today. We will get to visit the archeological sites in and around the Sacred Valley and learn about day to day life in the local villages, and get to practice our Spanish.

After a week in Cusco, we will be spending three days and nights trekking on the Lares Trek, which takes us through small local villages in the Andean highlands on the way to Machu Picchu. We will also visit Machu Picchu before our departure from Cusco.
